Also, in addition to JS's remarks, I teach the Nadib and Abihu principle. God wants what he wants; not what we often think he wants or what we think is ok. This is a timely principle laid out in the OT and it stands firm in the issue of instrumental music.
In other words, the foreign fire they used, for whatever reason, brighter, hotter, prettier, or more suitable for their purpose, or whatever, is not the fire approved of by God. Many like instrumental music because its prettier, more meaningful,..."surely God thinks it more beautiful and how can he not like it...right", and "it doesn't matter"....all these things simply violate what God says HE wanted.
So who are we, the created, decide what is ok with him, the creator?
Also, a quick study of the introduction of instrumental music into early Christian worship shows that it was opposed by protestant denominational preachers of that time. So, duh...even they rejected them early on.
